Milliken is full of opportunities and challenges

Joyce Lu Spotlight
Joyce Lu has been with Milliken for 11 years as Senior Lead Technician, based in the Shanghai - Plastic Additives (PA) Lab in China.

Tell us a bit about your role at Milliken, what does it involve?

My daily routine includes sample preparation and testing. In addition, I am also in charge of our lab team’s procurement work.

What are the main ways you can help Milliken’s customers?

I help our customers by providing highly efficient and effective lab services and our excellent technical support helps customers to better understand Milliken’s value and vision.

How does your expert knowledge of Milliken’s products help customers when they need Milliken’s technical service?

As an expert on polymer testing, my rich experience and knowledge on quality control (QC) testing of clarified polypropylene (PP) helps our customers - especially new start-up PP producers - quickly set up their QC procedure for NX clarified PP grades. We can help them build QC procedures for clarified PP and I am also the analysis expert of the PA lab.

What does a typical week look like for you?

I am always working with different machines and data and talking with team members and technical managers when we get abnormal results.

What do you like most about your position?

In my job I most like checking and analyzing samples sent from our customers as the results of our experiments can help them to solve problems and demonstrate the value of our products.

Do you have a particular customer success story or a highlight that you are proud of?

We designed a PP testing training program for technicians from a customer’s QC department. I attended the training as a trainer to share my knowledge with the trainees to help them establish PP evaluation procedures. It shows our value beyond products.

What’s is your favorite Milliken memory?

The events of the company's 150th anniversary were  very interesting for me, highlighting deeply Milliken’s colorful, long history and culture. Compared to the long history of Milliken, my 11 year journey with the company is just at the beginning!

What’s special about Milliken’s Chemical business? What do you like about the company?

I’m really proud of Milliken’s special business model that provides full-scale service to our customers throughout the entire value chain - upstream to downstream. I also really like the organized work environment, the scope of work and harmonious relationships with my colleagues.
