Our Next Step
As a Sustainable Enterprise: Milliken Supports the UN Global Compact
The world's largest corporate sustainability initiative, the United Nations Global Compact, encourages companies to align their strategies and operations to help further societal goals. Nearly 10,000 companies from 162 countries have formally committed to this compact, which comprises 10 principles addressing human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. These form the foundation of a sustainable enterprise and ultimately uphold a corporation’s basic responsibility to the planet and those who inhabit it.
At Milliken, the desire to positively impact the world around us has helped shape our work as a diversified global manufacturer for more than 150 years. Blending values-based business practices with the innate integrity of our associates position us to clearly and boldly showcase how doing the right thing and being successful in business are not mutually exclusive. We see this in every interaction, from our supply chain relationships to the problems our innovations help solve, and we continue to challenge ourselves to further our ethical mindset and hone our sustainable enterprise.
Today, we are proud to announce that Milliken & Company will become a supporter of the U.N. Global Compact. “Milliken’s sustainability commitments are now aligned with the global community,” shares Halsey M. Cook, president and CEO for Milliken & Company. “As we implement our 2025 sustainability goals and conduct business with integrity and care, we know first-hand that doing the right thing and profitability are not mutually exclusive. By joining the UN Global Compact, we take the next step to strengthen sustainability at Milliken and around the world.”
This formalized commitment cements our next steps in the journey to redefine how a sustainable enterprise, like Milliken, can contribute to our world. For example, in speaking to the environmental principles outlined in the compact, Milliken’s aggressive 2025 sustainability goals were informed by the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. Our work in fostering an environment where each and every associate can bring their authentic selves to work mirrors the spirit of the human rights principles. Finally, in our firm commitment to ethical business dealings, our ongoing efforts illustrate the anti-corruption principle in force.
The U.N. Global Compact’s call to responsible business action reaffirms Milliken’s purpose to positively impact the world for generations to come. By publicly announcing our support, we join together with thousands of companies globally in strengthening sustainability at Milliken and around the world.
