On February 25, Brothers Restoring Urban Hope, Inc. (B.R.U.H. Mentorship) celebrated 18 years of mentoring and youth development with its annual Sneaker Ball Gala, which Milliken sponsored. The event in Spartanburg, S.C. was sold out, with many Milliken associates in attendance.
“The Sneaker Ball Gala was an awesome event! It was wonderful to see the Spartanburg community come together to dance, laugh, and celebrate B.R.U.H. mentorship,” Stacey Laurin, D&I Program Leader, said. “To see the lengths that volunteers and staff go to positively impact the community was heartwarming.”
B.R.U.H. is a community-based and volunteer-led organization committed to exposing urban students to avenues of success regardless of socioeconomic status, family dynamics, nationality or past failures using the connected scholars program curriculum. Since its inception, B.R.U.H. has helped over 20,000 youth in Spartanburg County to discover who they are, develop their strengths, and overcome their challenges.
Victor Durrah, Executive Director and Founder of B.R.U.H., attributed the success of the Sneaker Ball Gala to the community’s strength as one.
“Thanks to our partners at Milliken in addition to the many sponsors and supporters, we successfully met our fundraising goal for this event: To assist with restoring the urban community through group mentorship, leadership training, and spiritual guidance,” Durrah said. “It just shows that when we all come together in unity and celebration, great things can happen in our community.”
Milliken is proud to support local organizations like B.R.U.H. that strive to make a positive impact for generations to come.
