World's Most Ethical 2019
Global manufacturer receives prestigious Ethisphere Institute honor for 13th consecutive year
SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Aligning values-based business practices with an ever-present culture of integrity fuels continued success for Milliken & Company, a global manufacturer with expertise in specialty chemicals, floor covering, and performance and protective textiles. Today, the company was named among the 2019 World's Most Ethical Companies® by Ethisphere Institute, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices. An esteemed group of 128 companies, the 2019 World’s Most Ethical Companies marks out organizations who are influencing and driving positive change in the business community and societies around the world. Milliken is one of only eight companies to earn the World’s Most Ethical Companies designation every year since the honor’s inception.
“It is with tremendous pride that I congratulate our associates across the world on earning this important designation,” says Halsey M. Cook, Milliken & Company’s president and CEO. “Ethical business practices have long been woven into our company culture and carried out by our associates. This honor upholds our belief that both individually and as a company we can make a positive impact with every action we take.”
“I congratulate Milliken for, once again, being named to the World’s Most Ethical Companies,” said Ethisphere’s CEO, Timothy Erblich. “Over the last 13 years, Milliken has helped highlight how a deep-rooted commitment to purpose-based strategy can equally fill a need within the business community while also advance the company’s overarching success.”
Milliken is one of 128 honorees recognized in 2019, representing 21 countries and 50 industries. The thirteenth class profoundly illustrate how companies continue to be the driving force for improving communities, building capable and empowered workforces, and fostering corporate cultures focused on ethics and a strong sense of purpose.
Ethics & Performance
Ethisphere’s long-standing belief that financial performance and ethics go hand-in-hand continues to be validated by the “Ethics Premium.” Ethisphere’s annual practice of tracking how the stock prices of publicly traded honorees compare to the U.S. Large Cap Index found that listed World’s Most Ethical Companies outperformed the large cap sector over five years by 14.4 percent and over three years by 10.5 percent.
Methodology & Scoring
The World's Most Ethical Companies assessment is based upon the Ethisphere Institute’s Ethics Quotient® (EQ) framework, which offers a quantitative way to assess a company’s performance in an objective, consistent and standardized manner. The information collected provides a comprehensive sampling of definitive criteria of core competencies rather than all aspects of corporate governance, risk, sustainability, compliance and ethics.
Scores are generated in five key categories: ethics and compliance program (35 percent), culture of ethics (20 percent), corporate citizenship and responsibility (20 percent), governance (15 percent) and leadership and reputation (10 percent). All companies that participate in the assessment process receive their scores, providing them with valuable insights into how they stack up against leading organizations.
